42nd Street Drive-In at the Novi Emagine!
February 21st, 2008 | 12:06 pm est |
Inspired by the Kung Fu Flicks series I had previously posted about and still lamenting the lack of fun choices on Detroit area movie screens, yours truly has partnered with Synapse Films and the Emagine Theaters to cook up a mondo bizarro movie series that is absolutely guaranteed to overload your cerebral cortex with some of the most outrageous cult films ever produced!
Every Thursday evening in April, Detroit area moviegoers are invited to come out to the Novi Emagine and experience the seedier side of cinema as we present a series of $7 double features featuring everything from punk rock zombies and flesh-eating schoolgirls to alien parasites, demonic heavy metal bands, debauched detectives, and gore drenched winos!
This isn’t Rodriguez and Tarantino’s Grindhouse folks… this is the REAL DEAL!
The complete schedule follows the jump.
Thursday, April 3 @ 8pm:
Heavy Metal Horrors!
Rock and Roll Nightmare (83 min) and Black Roses (90 min.)

Thursday, April 10 @ 8pm:
Alien Terror and Horrific Hooch!
Deadly Spawn (78 min.) and Street Trash (91min.)

Thursday, April 17 @ 8pm:
Japanese Punk Rock Zombies and Killer Schoolgirls!
Wild Zero (98 min.) and Stacy (80 min.)

Thursday, April 24 @ 8pm:
Nightmare Noir Mayhem and Shotgun Revenge!
Thriller: They Call Her One Eye (Vengeance Edition) (89 min.) and Singapore Sling (115 min.)

There will be a ten-minute intermission between the films, during which we will screen various trailers from Synapse Films’ spectacularly entertaining 42nd Street Forever trailer compilation. Also, every movie screened during the “42nd Street Drive-In” series will be available for purchase on DVD, along with many other Synapse titles, at each screening.
We hope to see you there!

I can’t wait! You are my hero! :)
well done, sir. this will be awesome.
So! Damn! Cool!
These have all played at Thriller! Chiller! over on teh west side of the state the past couple years and it’s about time the east side got to the love that only Jerry and Don over at Synpase can provide. Kudoes to you Jason and AllMovie! Rock on!
Sir, you know great trash when you see it. I salute you! See you at the movies!!
To be able to tell my children, “I saw ‘Street Trash’ and ‘The Deadly Spawn’ on the big screen,” why that’s like when old grandad regailed me about his tour of duty during world war one. Assuming my grand dad (a) fought in World War 1 and (b) was alive long enough in my life to tell me about it. But let’s make those assumptions. And let’s salute those who play these fine fine movies.
If we cannot watch “Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare” on the big screen, then the terrorists will have won. Viva Jason and everyone else involved!
Like, totally.
Sounds like a good time. These type of films are right up my alley
Sounds like some awesome films
You are my personal hero of the day, week, month. I nearly exploded when I saw that Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare and Black Roses were options for ticket purchases on my mobile phone this morning. I thought I was dreaming. We are bad movie buffs… serious fans, have seen dozen of 80s gems, especially in the rock horror genre, but THOSE TWO MOVIES are perhaps the best bad movies of all time. I specifically sent The Onion AV Club a copy of Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare to include in their Films That Time Forgot… we’ve held parties. My husband and I actually watched Black Roses with a bunch of friends the night before our wedding. Seeing it on the big screen is going to be incredible. I cannot thank you enough!!! You are simply awesome.
Zombies ate my job so I’ll be there.
