Although the film did manage to maintain the creepy concept of the last man on earth it lost the basic jolting realization that the man who had his family taken from him by an uncontrollable element somehow ends up being the murderer. I saw the film before I read the book so I didn't have the ability to compare the two during viewing but I still felt like there was something missing. Some realization or underlying point that was left out. After reading the book I knew what that was. To understand you have to read the book. It is a quick and easy read which is definitely worth the time. If you haven’t read the book then you can’t possibly understand why this film version of the story is such a disappointment.
