On DVD This Week: 30 Rock Edition

I don’t usually include TV in the weekly DVD release post. This is pretty much an arbitrary choice, because TV accounts for a massive portion of the DVD market, and I should know just as well as anybody. Like many loyal stimulus-addicts, I’m always quick to pick up the box sets of my favorite shows to watch in marathon sessions on sick days, and to leave on “while I clean the house,” which is to say, while I lay on the couch all day without being sick.

I guess I just omitted the TV-on-DVD releases out of an instinctual desire to avoid announcing that you can now own Season 11 of ER or the Best of Two and a Half Men, but this week, I’m forced to confront my denial. Today marks the release of 30 Rock: Season Two, and I can’t not mention it, because this show is by far my favorite thing on TV. You know how everybody always mentions how they still love the Office, even though it’s never going to be as funny as Season 2? Watch 30 Rock and you’ll laugh just as hard without the tacit, over-the-hill feeling that the best times are in the past, and man’s mortality is chilling and imminent.

Movies on DVD this week: Boy A, The Happening, Paranoid Park, Ripple Effect, The Visitor, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds, and Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead.

TV on DVD this week: 30 Rock - Season 2, How I Met Your Mother - Season 3, Mission: Impossible - Season 5, and The Sarah Jane Adventures - Season 1.
