On DVD This Week: Jazz Hands Edition

Repo! The Genetic Opera: Saw franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman finally proves he’s paid his dues, and makes the transition from torture-porn to earnest-horror-rock-musicals. Welcome to the top, my friend, welcome to the top.

City of Ember: Gen X parents, tired of sunshiney Pixar stuff, can give their children a taste of those oddly dark, slightly disturbing long-lost 80’s kids movies with this family-oriented throwback about two determined kids saving their post-apocalyptic underground city from eternal darkness and a slow, suffocating demise — all with ancient maps, clockwork booby traps, and a prominent appearance by Bill Murray.

Max Payne: Mark Wahlberg wages against the evils of unjust typecasting by cracking skulls in this gritty, crime-thriller video game adaptation where he never once says hi to anyone’s mother.

Also on DVD this week: Saw V, The Children of Huang Shi, Save Me, The Express, Igor, Henry Poole Is Here, Amusement, Boogeyman 3, Center Stage: Turn It Up, Poison Ivy 4: The Secret Society, Vacancy 2: The First Cut, Emergency! - Season 5, George Wallace (2-disc Special Edition), MGM: When the Lion Roars, Moonlight - Complete Series, My Three Sons - Season 1, Vol. 2, and The Rockford Files - Season 6.
